Prairie High School opened
in September 1979 to accommodate the growing population in the southern
portion of the Battle Ground School District, in Southwestern Washington.
Located 10 miles northeast of Vancouver, Washington near the town of Brush
Prairie, Prairie High School has provided numerous opportunities from academics
to athletics to fine arts to computers to vocational training to over
1400 students each year in grades nine through twelve. The student body
consists of students from Laurin, Pleasant Valley, and Maple Grove Middle
Schools in the Battle Ground School District, and, until recently, students
in the neighboring Hockinson School District. The school's mascot
is the falcon, and the colors are crimson and gold.
The alumni web
site was created by Jayson Dodge (PHS Class of 1988) in February 1999
after discovering that a Prairie High School alumni site did not exist
on the internet after numerous, lengthy searches. The site was made specifically
for the alumni of Prairie High School. After attending his
ten year high school reunion, he
decided to find ways to contact other alumni from PHS. Through the use
of available free home pages and some knowledge of HTML, The Prairie High
School Alumni Web Site went online. With little advertising and promotion,
a few alums added their names to the listing. Through additional search
engines, websites, newspapers, word of mouth, and other forms of media,
more and more people are coming to a place to share memories of their high
school experiences. In September 2001, the Prairie High School Alumni
Web Site moved into its permanent home at prairietalon.org.
Around the same time, the Prairie High School Alumni Association Project
was established, and plans to form an alumni association are currently underway.
